Azurdia Series on The Doctrines of Grace

Posted by: Martin Sullivan    in Doctrines of Grace

I have recently been blessed beyond measure by this wonderful series by Dr. Arturo Azurdia III.  The doctrines of grace are quite possibly the most important biblical teaching any person could ever hear.  Azurdia does a fantastic job of systematically progressing through each of the five doctrines followed by three eye opening question and answer session.  While his delivery is a bit different, his methodology for explaining the deep truths of the Bible are unmatched in our day.

Download them freely or listen to them streaming, just don’t miss this series! Final important note: it is systematic doctrine, so it’s imperative to listen in order.

  1. Doctrines of Grace – Total Depravity
  2. Doctrines of Grace – Unconditional Election
  3. Doctrines of Grace – Limited Atonement
  4. Doctrines of Grace – Irresistible Grace
  5. Doctrines of Grace – Perseverance of the Saints
  1. Doctrines of Grace – Questions and Answers Part I
  2. Doctrines of Grace – Questions and Answers Part II
  3. Doctrines of Grace – Questions and Answers Part III

Live Blog: Upper Room Covenant Group

Posted by: Martin Sullivan    in Study Recap

Tonight we are studying the work of the Holy Spirit in general.

5:57 – Early start. I pray to open and Tim kicks off the study. Verses to consider in the wok of the Spirit in the application of redemption: Matt 1:20; Luke 1:35; Acts 10:37-38; John 3:34; Heb 9:14; Rom 1:4; Acts 1:2.

6:00 – Tim wasn’t always taught the sovereignty of God over every living being on the Earth but believes it now.

6:02 – John 16:8-11 – A general work the Holy Spirit does throughout the whole world.

6:06 – The most vital work of the Holy Spirit is to point to Christ. His one function is to glorify Christ.

6:09 – Everything the Holy Spirit does in us, He does to bring glory to Christ. The Holy Spirit was not given to us to make our lives better.

6:25 – The Holy Spirit convicts all of their sin.

6:39 – Because Christ is our sanctification, our sanctification is complete. There is nothing we can do. However, we are saved unto works and therefor, if saved, will strive to serve Him well. Could it be said then, that if you do not persevere in serving the Living God, you were never truly saved for your sanctification is not complete?

6:44 – The coming of the Holy Spirit proclaims that Satan has been cast out… he still has certain powers but they are limited; restrained. Satan cannot touch a child of God unless permitted to by God.

6:52 – Hyper Calvinism is in error because they believe the Gospel should not be preached to all. Calvinist’s preach to all who will listen.

6:55 – How bad of a mockery of the Holy Bible is “The Message”? Compare Matt 22:14

  • KJV: For many are called, but few are chosen.
  • ESV: For many are called, but few are chosen.
  • Message: Many get invited; only a few make it.

6:59 – Tim ends with the question: So what is the preachers job?
